Gozar Air Station
Occidental Mindoro · Mimaropa · Philippines
The Philippine Air Force station atop Mt. Ambulong on Lubang Island. Larrikowal flags it as 'the closest place to set a helicopter down' for the planned raid on the Abu Sayyaf base in Covert Commando.
Gozar Air Station was built between 1957 and 1961 atop Mt. Ambulong on Lubang Island as a radar installation guarding the central southwestern Philippine airspace. It is named for Lt. Jose Gozar, a WWII PAAC pilot killed by the Japanese. The same hill is where Hiroo Onoda finally surrendered in 1974.
